(UPDATE) 2 dead in Makati grenade blast

MANILA, Philippines - Two persons were killed and two others were injured in a grenade-throwing incident in Makati City, Tuesday morning.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban, Makati City police chief, said the grenade throwing incident happened at 37 Phase 2, Teachers Compound in Barangay West Rembo at around 8:45 a.m.

Lukban identified the fatalities as 37-year-old Joseph Teodones and Helen Due. Those injured were identified as bystanders Helen de Ocampo and a certain "Butchoy."

Teodones died on the spot while Due died late Tuesday afternoon while being treated at the Ospital ng Makati (Osmak).

Lukban said the grenade was thrown by a man wearing a ski mask at the house located at the corner of Lawton Avenue and Kalayaan Avenue.

He said the grenade, which was intended for "Butchoy," did not immediately explode.

Lukban said Teodones picked-up the grenade and tried to throw it away but it exploded.

The Makati Police is still investigating the incident.
