MANILA, Philippines —Rotating blackouts will affect parts of Metro Manila and Bulacan province due to short supply, the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced on Friday.

Meralco said that the emergency shutdown of Pagbilao Power Station, one of the country's largest power plants, in Quezon province placed the Luzon grid on red alert.

The grid lacks reserve power and will cause two-hour power interruptions starting Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas. and Marilao, Bulacan.

The coal-run Pagbilao followed the shutdown of Sual power plant in Pangasinan on Thursday.
