MANILA, Philippines - Three public elementary schools in Sorsogon and a barangay day care center in Iloilo located in communities hosting transmission lines and facilities of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) will benefit from sanitation facilities donated by the grid operator.
Newly constructed male and female comfort rooms were turned over to these Sorsogon schools: Cambulaga Elementary School in West District, Sorsogon City; Severino Fortes Elementary School in Barangay Macawayan, Irosin; and Ponong Elementary School in Barangay Ponong, Casiguran. A day care center in Barangay San Juan, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo was also the beneficiary of a two-cubicle concrete sanitation facility.
The beneficiary areas provide crucial support to NGCP operations by hosting and protecting major transmission assets, particularly the Sta. Magdalena-Naga 350-kilovolt (kV) HVDC line, BacMan-Daraga 230-kV line, Daraga-Sorsogon 69-kV line, Sorsogon-Irosin 69-kV line, Balogo substation in Sorsogon, and the Barotac-Viejo substation and cable terminal station of the Negros-Panay submarine cable in Iloilo.
“This partnership project with the schools’ parent-teacher associations and barangay units will allow more than 1,200 students from various districts in Sorsogon and day care students in Iloilo improved access to health and sanitation services. NGCP looks at these projects as a means of supporting the communities’ development through public health protection,†said Nelson Cabangon, head of NGCP’s corporate affairs department.
