MANILA, Philippines - A mayor in Cagayan province was killed by suspected communist rebels while attending a flag-raising ceremony on Monday morning.
Reports said that Gonzaga town Mayor Carlito Pentecostes Jr. was gunned down by members of the New People's Army during the flag-raising rite.
Security forces are now conducting pursuit operations against the mayor's assassins, reports added.
