Bulacan exec’s aide slain in ambush

MALOLOS CITY, Philippines   â€“  The chief of staff of a provincial board member of Bulacan was killed in an ambush by motorcycle-riding gunmen here yesterday morning.

Edwin Inocencio of Barangay San Sebastian, Hagonoy, was on his way to the house of board member Michael Fermin, when two unidentified assailants shot him at about 8 a.m.

Police said Inocencio was driving his vehicle when the gunmen blocked him in front of the gate of the Northfield Subdivision in Barangay Longos where Fermin’s house is located.

The victim died at the scene as the gunmen reportedly fired at him several times, said the witnesses.

Fermin told journalists the killing was politically motivated. He said he and the victim have been receiving death threats through text messages.

He said the last message they received was: “This is your last day (Ito na ang huling araw mo.)”

Inocencio has been Fermin’s chief of staff since 2010.

Fermin is allegedly planning to run in the next congressional race for the first district of Bulacan in 2016.                 – With Ric Sapnu
