Contractor penalized for defective Bulacan project

MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – A construction company was penalized for allegedly not following the specifications in a P10-million infrastructure project in Hagonoy town, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bulacan reported yesterday.

Ruel Angeles, head of DPWH-District Engineering 1, said ARL Construction would have to redo the project from scratch.

“We found the contractor did not use proper steel sheet piles and did not follow specifications,” Angeles said referring to a revetment project in Barangay San Agustin.

Angeles said the ARL Construction should have used the 30-foot, instead of the15-foot steel sheet pile for the project.

The shorter steel sheet pile has been removed as the company prepares to redo the project.

The DPWH said the ARL Construction would continue the project at no additional cost to the government and finished it within schedule as specified in the contract.
