Laguna lawmaker’s uncle slain

LAGUNA, Philippines – A lawyer-uncle of Laguna third district Rep. Sol Aragones was gunned down near a fast-food outlet in San Pablo City here before dawn last Sunday, authorities said.

The victim, lawyer Jesus Boy Carmona, 60, was declared dead on arrival at the Laguna Provincial Hospital for a bullet wound in the back of his head, according to Superintendent Erickson Dilag, San Pablo City police chief.

SPO1 Nathaniel Doronila, who is handling the case, said Carmona had just come from the fast-food outlet when the gunman followed him to the parking lot and shot him at close range at around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators suspect that the killing of Carmona, who earlier had received death threats, could be work-related or motivated by a personal grudge.

Witnesses and Carmona’s child were able to identify the gunman through the footage of a closed-circuit television camera installed near the fast-food outlet.

Aragones has appealed to authorities for a speedy resolution of his uncle’s killing.
