Balanga raises P2-M donations for dioceses hit by quake, Yolanda
MANILA, Philippines - The Diocese of Balanga in Bataan has donated P2 million to 12 other dioceses and religious organizations that have been affected by the magnitude 7.2 quake and Typhoon Yolanda.
Bataan Bishop Ruperto Santos told the CBCPNews, the official news service provider of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, that they have collected P2,042,486.70 in donations and this was distributed to the affected archdioceses, dioceses and other organizations.
The Archdioceses of Capiz received P120,000; Cebu, P60,000; Jaro (Iloilo), P130,000; and Palo (Leyte), P200,000.
The Dioceses of Borongan (Samar) got P200,000; Kalibo (Aklan), P130,000; Masbate, P72,486.70; Naval (Biliran), P200,000; and San Jose de Antique, P130,000.
The Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay (Palawan) received P400,000; Augustinian Monastery of Sto. Niño in Cebu, P200,000; and Caritas Manila, P200,000.
On New Year’s Day, Santos expressed his gratitude to the parishioners of Balanga for their generosity and spirit of solidarity with the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
He also thanked the people of Bataan for their generosity even if the province experienced its own share of hardships due to monsoon rains and typhoons. Several municipalities were flooded when Typhoon Maring struck last August.
