P650K worth of marijuana plants discovered in Benguet town

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -  More than half a million peso worth of marijuana plants were discovered anew in a remote village in Kibungan town in Benguet this week.

Kibungan town policemen led by Police Senior Inspector Andres Calaowa Jr. maneuvered as early as 4 a.m. on November 19  to barangay Badeo in Kibungan and raided at least six marijuana plantation sites totaling 650 square meters in sitio Taba-ao and Culangi.

Police however found no marijuana cultivators during the raid. The agents were able to uproot 3,250 fully grown marijuana plants valued at 650,000.

Benguet policemen  also appealed to the residents in the areas to refrain from engaging in marijuan cultivation, reminding them of the ill effects of the illegal substance.

Authorities still consider the highland Cordillera region as the biggest producer of good quality marijuana in the country because of its climate coupled with the harsh conditions of terrain that hampers detection of authorities.
