ZAMBOANGA CITY - An incumbent village chairman, who turned out to be a wanted person for piracy and double murder charges, was arrested inside a state-run college in Isabela City, police said Thursday.
Police identified the arrested suspect as Ibrahim Sabtal Saluway, 50, chairman of Barangay Fort Holland, Maluso town.
Isabela City police chief Superintendent Albert Larubis said the wanted village chairman was spotted by the arresting team inside the campus of the Basilan State College in Barangay Sumagdang.
Larubis said Saluway is wanted for the crime of qualified piracy and double murder filed Nov. 17, 2011.
Judge Leo Jay Principe of the Basilan Regional Trial Court, who issued the arrest order, recommended no bail for Saluway.
The village chief was brought to the Basilan Provincial Jail and then transferred to the Isabela City Jail following the request of his family.
