3,000 'zombies' to hit Makati streets

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Some 3,000 "zombies" will run in the streets of Makati City on Thursday night (October 31) to go after runners in the “Makati After Dark: Run and Survive Hallowfest."

The zombie inspired fun run is presented by the city government of Makati in collaboration with J.R. Usi, an events planning company.

To make way for the fun run, the main highlight of the event, the city Department of Public Safety will be closing the following streets to traffic:

Gil Puyat Avenue from Paseo de Roxas to Nicanor Garcia Street (west bound) from 3 a.m. October 31 to 5 a.m. November 1
N. Garcia from Gil Puyat to Jupiter Street (east bound) from 5 a.m. on October 31 to 5a.m. November 1.
Stop and Go traffic along Burgos and Polaris Streets

The DPS traffic enforcers will be deployed to guide motorists in the said areas.

The fun run will be conducted on a race course approximately six to seven kilometers long, with the starting point near the Petron Station at Makati Avenue corner Gil Puyat Avenue.

Runners will get added momentum from the sudden appearance of "zombies" who will run after or alongside them as they traverse the streets along N. Garcia (Reposo), Jupiter in Bel-Air, Makati Avenue, Polaris, P. Burgos and Paseo de Roxas.

Meanwhile, non-runners can get their fill of live performances by topnotch bands like Sandwich, Callalily, Chicosci, 6 Cycle Mind and other rock bands with DJs, as they savor mouthwatering eats offered by enterprising gourmands of Mercato Centrale.

Runners are required to register for a fee of P1,000 which will grant them access to the concert, GTMacon 3 (Car Show, Cosplay and Artists meet and greet) and the food festival with a zombie marathon thrown in. On- site visitors will be required to pay ₱500. For those who were not able to register at Toby’s outlets or online via makatiafterdark.com, a registration booth will be set up at the Pacific Star Building at the corner of Makati Avenue and Gil Puyat Avenue.

J.R. Usi earlier announced that it will donate proceeds from the event to displaced families affected by the recent earthquake in Bohol and Cebu.
