ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines – A businessman snatched by armed men last month was rescued by police officers in Panglima Estino town in Sulu on Sunday, security officials said yesterday.
This developed as another businessman was kidnapped in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur on Saturday.
Inspector Kris Conrad Gutierez, spokesman for the Sulu provincial police, said Roan Romero of Pandami, Sulu, was taken at gunpoint in Barangay Siggagang on Sept. 6.
Police officers from the municipalities of Padami, Siasi, and Panglima Estino tracked down the kidnappers, who abandoned the victim upon sensing the lawmen’s approach.
Romero was brought to the Sulu Provincial Hospital for checkup and was turned over to Sulu acting police director Senior Superintendent Abraham Orbito.
Meanwhile, security forces launched a pursuit and rescue operation for Lee Tan, 37, who was snatched in Pagadian City, according to Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman for the police regional office.
Government forces raided the kidnappers’ suspected safehouse in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental but did not find the victim.
The raiding team recovered Lee’s van, which the kidnappers used as their getaway vehicle, at the site.
