Blackouts to persist in Misamis Oriental

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Consumers of the Moresco-II electric cooperative in the first district of Misamis Oriental will continue to experience daily rotating blackouts in the coming weeks.

This, after the issue was unresolved during a public hearing called by the provincial government yesterday.

The provincial board’s committee on energy, transportation and communication chaired by Emmanuel Mugot invited executives of Moresco-II and the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines to shed light on the problem.

Moresco-II manager Amado Kee confirmed that blackouts have occurred from four to six hours daily.

Mugot though said Moresco-II has given assurance that the blackouts would be reduced to 30 minutes to one hour.

It was learned during the public hearing that King Energy in Gingoog City could supply Moresco-II with 10.4 megawatts, enough to cover the electric cooperative’s deficit of 9.5 MW, but that the NGCP has not yet allowed King Energy to connect to its grid.
