MANILA, Philippines - The Vatican has appointed Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Julito Cortes as the new bishop of Dumaguete.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines’s website said Pope Francis announced Cortes’ designation in Rome on Saturday.
Cortes has been a parish priest of Bacong, Negros Oriental, which is part of Dumaguete diocese, for more than five years. He also served as the diocese’s vicar general for 11 years and later diocesan administrator until July 2001.
