Surigao City offices ransacked

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines   â€“ City employees lost nearly P60,000 in cash as well as jewelry and personal belongings when the offices of the Surigao City council, vice mayor and budget department were ransacked last Thursday night.

The incident was discovered only the following morning when the employees reported for work.

According to a police report, it was Cesar Gemao, an administrative aide in the city council, who reported the burglary to the police station located in the city hall compound.

Gemao told police that he found the drawers in the city council’s office open and things scattered on the floor. He also found the offices of Vice Mayor Danilo Menor and the budget department also burglarized, he said.

Senior Superintendent Joseph Nojara, city police chief, said they were investigating the incident.

In the past three months, burglars have also ransacked the treasury offices in the towns of Sison, San Francisco, Tubod, Bacuag and Alegria, all in Surigao del Norte.

Surigao City is a chartered city of Surigao del Norte.
