NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Three men riding a motorcycle were killed while another was seriously injured in a highway accident in North Cotabato’s Pigcawayan town on Wednesday.
The fatalities, Zainal Wahid, Watari Aliman and Ador Macapeges, all residents of Pikit town in North Cotabato, were on their way to Cotabato City when their motorcycle, while trying to overtake another vehicle, collided head-on with a tricycle coming from the opposite direction of the highway in Barangay Baguer.
So strong was the impact of the collision that the victims’ motorcycle was thrown away and hit a cargo truck parked along the highway.
A companion of the three fatalities, Guiara Omal, who was seriously injured, is now undergoing medication at a hospital.
Traffic investigators from the Pigcalagan municipal police said the victims appeared to be chasing someone as their motorcycle, without any license plate, was at high speed when it collided with an approaching tricycle.
“There were four of them riding that Bajaj Kawasaki motorcycle together. It was overloaded and over speeding when the accident happened,†a witness, roadside vegetable vendor, Myrna Sevilla, told reporters.
Policemen are now trying to determine the backgrounds of each of the victims.
