SC, US embassy suspend work; no trading at PSE

MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday suspended work in all courts in Metro Manila while the Philippine Stock Exchange canceled trading due to continuous heavy to intense rains spawned by enhanced southwest monsoon brought about  by Tropical Storm Maring.

SC spokesperson lawyer Theodore Te said courts outside Metro Manila may also suspend work, depending on their respective executive judges.

Te said that according to Deputy Court Administrator Raul Villanueva, executive judges of the Antipolo City Regional Trial Court have also suspended work today.

Te said executive judges of regional trial courts in Sta.Cruz, Laguna, Bulacan, Siniloan and San Pablo City have also suspended work.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Stock Exchange also suspended trading today due to the bad weather.

"There will be no trading, clearing and settlement today at the Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines due to suspension of bank clearing," it said.

In a separate advisory, the United States embassy in Manila said its offices will be closed on Monday "due to severe flooding in and around Metro Manila."

"Consular services have been suspended in order to keep the public and our employees safe. Individuals with scheduled visa interviews should watch our website or contact our visa information service at 02-982-5555 to reschedule," said the embassy.
