85 SK applications in P’sinan rejected

SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan, Philippines – About 85 applications for membership in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) found to contain false information were disapproved by the election registration board.

Lawyer Jennifer Balarbar, city election registrar, told The STAR that the applicants were found to have double registration, failed to meet residency requirement, and under aged or over aged.

Balarbar said these youth registrants were subpoenaed for a hearing last Aug. 13.

During the hearing,  barangay officials and other individuals were invited as witnesses to find out if the supposed young voters were telling the truth.

“Some cried because they were really pressed to tell the truth. One was even   proud to admit she tampered her birth certificate,” Balarbar said, adding this surprised her as the girl was only 14 years old and a daughter of a barangay councilman.

She said the disapproval of the 85 applications only showed that cheaters cannot fool election officers.
