Bodies of Dutchman, wife found after fire

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines   â€“ A 70-year-old Dutch national and his Filipina wife were found dead after their house was razed by fire in San Pascual, Batangas before dawn yesterday, police said.

PO2 Ivan Gucci Lavega, officer-on-case, said they were investigating if there was foul play in the death of retired engineer Johannes Halderman and his wife Marie, 55.

In a phone interview, Lavega said Halderman’s body was found on a ladder on the second floor with a nylon cord tied around his neck, and Maria’s on the bed.

Probers said the bodies were discovered after the fire was declared under control at around 3:30 a.m. yesterday.
