Batangas dad accused of rape

BATANGAS , Philippines   â€“ A newly elected municipal councilor in this province is facing a complaint for rape that allegedly occurred in Quezon City last June 28.

Charged with rape by sexual assault before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office was Lipa City councilor Nonato Monfero.

In an eight-page complaint, the alleged victim said the incident happened while they were staying in a Quezon City house while attending a course on local legislation at the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

According to the complainant, she slept at the guestroom on the night of June 27 and woke up the next day with Monfero beside her naked, and with her breasts exposed.

She alleged that Monfero then sexually assaulted her, and while doing so, told her that he loved her and that he would leave his family for her.

She said she resisted Monfero’s alleged moves, and in the process, sustained a laceration as her head hit a small table beside the bed.

Monfero allegedly stopped the assault when she got her phone and tried to call for help, the complainant alleged.

She said in her complaint that she was able to run to another room and locked herself while waiting for help.

Monfero, she alleged, knocked on the door and asked that they talk about the incident. She said she did not open the door until a colleague fetched her.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, the complainant said she decided to file the case for her family and for other victims of abuse.

“I would not allow that a councilor like him would serve in our country,” she said in Filipino. “I will fight for this until the end.”

Her lawyers said it took some time for her to file a complaint due to Monfero’s political influence in this province.

The STAR tried to get Monfero’s side but failed.
