NBI, Taiwanese probers to discuss findings on Balintang shooting probe
June 6, 2013 | 2:11pm
MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and probers from Taiwan will meet on Thursday to discuss their findings on the fatal shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman in waters off Batanes last month.
The Taiwanese investigators arrived in the country Thursday morning to meet with their counterparts here, according to NBI Director Nonnatus Caesar Rojas.
Both Philippine and Taiwanese governments are investigating the May 9, 2013 shooting by Philippine Coast Guard personnel of 65-year old Taiwanese fisherman Hung Shih-Cheng.
Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said the meeting between the two team of probers will not be a "cross-checking" of their findings.
She earlier said the Taiwanese probers have sought a meeting with their Filipino counterparts.
