MANILA, Philippines - A legal officer of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) who demanded more money for the visa extension of a foreigner was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents in Cebu City last Monday.
NBI-Central Visayas director Antonio Pagatpat said they acted on the complaint of an American that lawyer Serafin Abellon, 63, of the BI Cebu regional office based in Mandaue City, demanded P30,000 for his visa’s extension, which costs only P2,800.
The American said he initially gave Abellon P5,000 last May 6, and another P10,000 on May 16. But Abellon demanded P15,000 more.
