Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet    --  A  woman collector was caught red-handedly “soliciting” bets with  jueteng revived  in Abra after the May 13 polls.

Operatives from the Abra provincial intelligence branch on Thursday morning cornered  52-year-old  Julie Adame while allegedly collecting bets in her village in barangay Pamutic, Pidigan, a town adjacent to Bangued, Abra’s capital.

Senior Inspector Bismark Mendoza, who led the sting operation against the jueteng bet collector also caught Adame with P838.25 cash bets;  jueteng “papelitos” with betting numbers, a stapler, a calculator, four ballpens and one box of staple wires.

Jueteng in Abra has reportedly made a comeback  after it was momentarily stopped before the May 13 polls as rival politicians sought to plug the inflow of funds favoring a single congressional bet.

The alleged “jueteng lord” operating in Abra identified only  by reliable sources privy to the multi-million opearation as "Bonito"  allegedly threw his support to a single politician who challenged Rep. Ma Jocelyn Valera Bernos.

Jueteng gross bets before the May 13 polls had been hitting some  P800,000.
