MANILA, Philippines - A speeding forward truck collided with a passenger bus, leaving one person dead and 21 others injured in Davao City on Tuesday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Robert Sumampong, who was on the front seat of the Davao Metro Shuttle Bus bound for Tagum City from Davao City.
The driver of the bus, Rogelio Enclonar and the truck driver, Armand Lopez, were in critical conditions. Nineteen more people were hurt in the accident.
Police said that the truck with plate number LFF 933 was overtaking an Isuzu trailer truck when it collided with the passenger bus. The accident happened at around 6:25 a.m. near the Gate 3 of Holcim Cemen corp. plant along Km. 16 in Barangay Tibungco, Bunawan district.
Senior Police Officer 2 Arnel Masauding of the Bunawan district police station said that it was raining hard when the accident happened. He said that this could have also contributed to the accident.
The management of the Davao Metro Shuttle Bus has promised to shoulder the hospital bills of the wounded passengers. It also assured financial assistance to the family of the killed passenger.
