Gunmen kill boy, habal-habal driver in Zamboanga ambush

ZAMBOANGA City, Philippines - A habal-habal driver and a five-year-old boy were killed and three others were hurt when gunmen ambushed them in Bayog town, Zamboanga del Sur over the weekend, police reported Monday.
Senior Inspector Gaspar Gadingan, Bayog police commander, identified the victims as Jerry Garnica, 46, habal-habal driver, and Orlando Colot, 5, both residents of Barangay Camp Blessing.
Gadingan said Garnica, with Colot and his mother and sisters as passengers, were traversing a road in Purok 6 in Barangay Kahayagan, when they were attacked by two unidentified men armed with 9mm pistols.
He said that the victims believe the attackers are followers of a politician.
The boy died on the spot due to gunshot wounds in the stomach while Garnica died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Police are hunting down the attackers.
