MANILA, Philippines - A former barangay chairwoman, who supported Antipolo City Mayor Nilo Leyble in the recent elections, was gunned down in her house on Tuesday, authorities said.
The victim, Rina Gabuna Junio, 50, sustained a gunshot wound in the right eye and died while being rushed to the Antipolo District Hospital.
Junio, officer-in-charge of the Antipolo City Annex 3, was the third supporter of Leyble who was killed in what is believed to be election-related violence in Antipolo City, said Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director.
Anduyan ordered a deeper probe on the killing of Junio who was watching TV in her home near the Cogeo Gate 2 when the gunman barged in and fired at her at around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Earlier, Dick Taneo was playing the campaign jingle of Leyble during the fiesta celebration of Barangay Cupang when he was gunned down, while Angelito San Pablo was attending a protest rally in Sumulong Park when he was killed.
Both were supporters of Leyble who lost to Rizal Gov. Casimiro Ynares III in the mayoral race.
