Abra candidate’s husband yields guns, cash to buy votes
BANGUED, Abra, Philippines – Three firearms, a box of bullets and cash allegedly for vote buying were seized from the husband of a mayoral bet in Lagayan town and three companions at a police checkpoint here yesterday.
Police said the four-vehicle convoy of Isagani Hoson, husband of mayoral candidate Berna Hoson, was headed toward this capital town from Penarubia town, when the group was accosted.
The last car in the convoy yielded an M-16 Armalite rifle, a .45-caliber pistol, a 9-mm pistol and a box with .45-caliber bullets. Police also found a short magazine and a shoulder bag containing P15,000 and a list of voters suspected to have received money from the group.
Arrested with Hoson were Mario Quibayan, Loreto Balocas and Leonardo Paradop.
