Grenade blast hits Pangasinan town mayor's house

MANILA, Philippines - A grenade blast hit the house of Mayor Rodrigo Orduna of Bugallon, Pangasinan early Wednesday.

Police said that unidentified men lobbed the grenade at Orduna's house at around 1:35 a.m. The mayor and the other members of his family were sleeping at the time of the attack.

The blast damaged a door of the mayor's house, but no one was hurt in the blast.

Senior Superintendent Marlou Chan, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office director said that crime scene investigators have recovered grenade fragments as well as the grenade's pin and lever.

Police said that the motive of the attack could have been politics.

Orduna, who is running for vice mayor under the Liberal Party, is one of the complainants in the plunder case filed against a relative of Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr.

PCOS machines delivered

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has delivered almost all of the needed Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines in Pangasinan.

Provincial Comelec Supervisor Marino Salas also reported that almost all of the needed Voter's Instruction and Information Sheets (VIIS) have also been delivered.

Salas said 2,225 of the 2,364 needed PCOS machines have been delivered to the warehouses of the official carrier Air 21 located in three cities of Urdaneta, Dagupan, and Alaminos.

On the other hand, 90% of all the VIIS which contains significant voter’s information on election day such as voting precincts as well as the voting dos and don'ts were also personally delivered through mail in different areas of the province.

The PCOS machines will be transferred to various precincts for testing and sealing on May 4 and 5, said Salas.
