Palace allots P20 million for Muslim scholars

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang has allocated P20 million for the scholarship of poor but deserving Muslim college students this coming school year.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said 500 slots are available under the Bangsamoro Special Grant-in-Aid Program.

“Each beneficiary is allotted a maximum of P5,000 per semester or P10,000 per year to cover tuition and other fees,” the CHEd said.

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process evaluates the applications.

The funding for the study grant will come from the Presidential Management Staff, the CHEd said.

CHEd said the grant will be forfeited if the grantee accepts another grant from another government agency.

The scholarship program is pursuant to Republic Act 7722 or the Higher Education Act of 1994 and the Framework Agreement signed between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front last Oct. 15.
