DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized at the Port of Davao P28 million worth of suspected smuggled cars and float glass that reportedly came from the United States and China.
BOC Commissioner Rufino Biazon said Customs personnel found three vehicles in a 40-foot shipping container that arrived from the US last Feb. 21. The cars were reportedly consigned to Ranths General Merchandise.
The three vehicles were a 2003 Mini Cooper, a 2003 Nissan 350 Z, and a 2006 Range Rover SUV.
Biazon also inspected 10 shipping containers with bronze float glass and 10 other shipping containers also with float glass that reportedly came from China last Jan. 7. Float glass is commonly used in making windows.
The shipment was allegedly consigned to CSB Import and Export Containers.
The products were confiscated for alleged violation of the Tariffs and Customs Code of the Philippines. – Evelyn Macairan, Edith Regalado
