Sarangani youth group vows to monitor mining firm’s ECC

The Philippine Star

SARANGANI , Philippines   â€“ An organization of working students and young professionals from the towns of Malungon, Maasim, Maitum, Kiamba, Glan and Malapatan in this province vowed to closely monitor the conditions of the proposed Tampakan mine project’s environmental compliance certificate (ECC).

“We are prepared to monitor this and help ensure that we will all benefit from a sustainable and responsible mining project in our region,” said Johnrell Revilla, president of the youth group.

“The Tampakan project is about the future of the working youth, we need employment opportunities right here in our province,” Revilla said.

He noted that the Tampakan project would generate “12,000 job opportunities… from construction to operation.”

Revilla said they are organizing a town-to-town information drive “to help inform the people on the possibility of a sustainable mining project.”

“What we ask people is for them to have open minds and to listen to our arguments,” he said.
