Village councilor, son nabbed over drugs in Leyte
Anti-narcotics agents nabbed a barangay councilor and his son during a sting operation in Leyte, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said on Thursday.
The PDEA said barangay kagawad Pio Peñaflor,59, of Barangay Mag-aso, Jaro, Leyte; and his 28-year-old son, Ylphi, were arrested by law enforcers during a buy-bust operation.
Reports showed that at around 10:25 p.m. last Feb. 8, the Peñaflors agreed to meet with the poseur-buyer along their neighborhood in Barangay Mag-aso, to sell one sachet of shabu.
Upon receiving the buy-bust money, father and son were immediately arrested by elements of PDEA Regional Office 8.
Several minutes later, and armed with a search warrant, the authorities raided the Peñaflor’s residence reportedly utilized as a drug den and confiscated six more sachets of shabu and assorted drug paraphernalia.
"Besides being an incumbent barangay councilor, the older Peñaflor is also a retired police officer. He is the Number 7 targeted drug personality for neutralization in Eastern Visayas and owns a drug den," PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said.
He added that Peñaflor is the 9th barangay kagawad arrested for drug-related offenses since 2012. - Dennis Carcamo
