MANILA, Philippines - At least 500 families were displaced by floodwaters in General Santos City as Mindanao was hit by heavy rains spawned by a low pressure area (LPA) off Davao City, the local disaster response agency said Tuesday.
The Office of Civil Defense for Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City) said that the 500 families were hit by knee-deep floods caused by continuous rains caused by the LPA.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that as of 4 a.m. Tuesday, the LPA was estimated at 340 kilometers southeast of Davao City embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone affecting Mindanao.
"Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said.
PAGASA said that parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will also experience rainshowers and thunderstorms due to a prevailing northeast monsoon affecting Northern Luzon.
