Muhlach seeks relief from CA
MANILA, Philippines - Actor Aga Muhlach sought relief from the Court of Appeals (CA) yesterday in his congressional bid in Camarines Sur, which was imperiled by a local court order excluding him from the list of voters in San Jose town.
In a 50-page petition filed through his lawyer Romulo Macalintal, Muhlach asked the CA to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) enjoining the San Jose regional trial court from implementing its Dec. 17, 2012 order to the election registration board for his exclusion from the voters’ list.
His wife, Charlene Gonzales, who was also delisted from the book of voters, joined Muhlach in filing the petition.
Macalintal argued that the TRO should be issued because his clients stand to “suffer grave and irreparable damage and injury as they will be deprived of their constitutional right of suffrage.”
He said Muhlach might be disqualified from running for congressman of the fourth district of Camarines Sur if the denial of his registration as a voter becomes final and executory, citing a press statement from the Commission on Elections.
