Nov. 23 a holiday in Angono

Aurea Calica - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has declared Nov. 23, which falls on a Friday, as a special non-working day in Angono, Rizal in celebration of the “Higantes Festival.”

The President declared the holiday through Proclamation 503 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on Nov. 15 to give the people of Angono the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

Higantes Festival is celebrated in Angono in honor of the municipality’s patron saint San Clemente. Male devotees carry the image of San Clemente during a procession alongside the so-called higantes.

The higantes are made of paper mache, usually 10 to 12 feet in height and four to five feet in diameter.
