MANILA, Philippines - Before the start of the rainy season next year, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) aims to distribute the list of shelter areas to all shipping companies and fishing boat operators in a bid to reduce maritime incidents during bad weather.
PCG spokesman Commander Armand Balilo said the other day that Rear Admiral Luis Tuason Jr., PCG vice commandant for operations officer-in-charge, has given their various districts, stations and detachments until next month to locate the shelters.
They were ordered to submit the list of sheltering areas within their jurisdiction by December.
Balilo said this would give the PCG headquarters enough time to collect the information and distribute them to shipping companies nationwide.
As for small fishing boat operators, Balilo said they would seek the help of local government units and barangay officials.
