Barobo, Surigao del Sur, Philippines – The barangay chairman of a fishing community here was gunned down by still unidentified men last Wednesday, police said.
Investigators said Reneboy Lacerna, chairman of Barangay Sua, was about to ride his pumpboat when he was attacked by two men who then fled on a motorcycle toward Tagbina town.
Recovered from the crime scene were seven empty cartridges of a .45-caliber pistol.
Aside from the rampant illegal fishing in the village, police were also eyeing other angles in the killing.
