Peanut vendor gets reward money in engineer's slay

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – A peanut vendor has received P100,000 for providing information that led to the arrest last Tuesday of one of the suspected gunmen of Makati City engineer Nelson Morales.

William Balayo, lawyer of the Morales family, said the unnamed vendor was presented to the victim’s sister, Malinao Vice Mayor Alice Morales, who personally handed the reward money.

Balayo said the Morales family is willing to give P100,000 to P200,000 for every suspect that would be arrested based on information from tipsters.

“But the cash reward will only cover suspects with arrest warrants,” he clarified.

At least six suspects, including Roderick Sarahan and Jonatahn Madrinero, who were arrested, were charged with murder, frustrated murder, frustrated homicide and attempted homicide.

Police said at least 14 men were behind the killing of Morales, who was shot dead while going out of the St. Nicholas Chapel in Barangay Estancia in Malinao town, where he was a wedding sponsor last Sept. 7.
