Comelec allocates council, board seats for new districts
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued resolutions allocating seats for Sangguniang Panlungsod and Sangguniang Panlalawigan in Palawan, Quezon City, Bacoor City, and North Cotabato.
The resolutions are in line with laws on the “districting” of these localities.
Under Resolution No. 9524, the Comelec said Palawan was reapportioned into three legislative districts to start on May 13, 2013.
The first district will have five seats for the provincial board while the second and third districts will have four seats and one seat, respectively.
The resolution also stated that districts 5 and 6, the two new districts in Quezon City, will have six seats for the city council, just like the four other old districts.
On the other hand, the two new districts in Bacoor City – Bacoor West and Bacoor East – will also have six seats in the city council.
Under Republic Act 9525, four provincial board seats were earmarked for the first district of North Cotabato, and three seats each for the second and third districts.
The Comelec resolution is in line with Republic Act 10177 which reapportioned North Cotabato into three legislative districts.
