Remains of NPA purge victims found in Quezon

MANILA, Philippines - The skeletal remains of at least 30 people believed to be victims of purging by communist rebels were unearthed in San Francisco, Quezon last Saturday, the military said yesterday.

Army spokesman Maj. Harold Cabunoc said the remains were discovered by a farmer plowing his field in Sitio Irrigation in Pagsangahan village. The farmer then immediately informed local officials about the mass grave.

“Local villagers who also rushed to the scene witnessed the fearsome sight of the victims’ remains, some skulls still bearing marks of torture,” Cabunoc said.
