Tribal folk listup to be pilot-tested in Maguindanao

Manila, Philippines -  The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will pilot-test the registration of indigenous people (IPs) when it conducts the general voter’s registration in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao from July 9 to 18.

Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes said the registration will be in South Upi in Maguindanao, where there is a big concentration of IPs.

Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said that through the pilot-testing, the poll body would know the adjustments to be made to reach out to IPs.

In Resolution 9427, Comelec said it would allow IPs to register without presenting identification cards. They will only have to present an affidavit of identification executed by a relative.
