Salted eggs down family of 4 in Cagayan
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – A family of four was hospitalized in Cagayan province after eating contaminated salted eggs last Friday.
Reports identified the victims as Milton Macababbad, 62, and his children, Mark Neil, 19, and Mylene Sison, 35, and her husband, Herbert, 33.
The victims, all residents of Barangay Linao Norte in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan’s capital, were rushed to the People’s General Hospital after experiencing dizziness, vomiting and stomach ache minutes after having a breakfast of salted eggs which they had bought at a cheaper price as these already had cracks.
Dr. James Guzman, city health officer, said the cracks allowed bacteria to contaminate the salted eggs.
Later in the same day, 58 elementary pupils in upland Commonal village in Solano town in this province manifested symptoms of poisoning after eating fruits of the tagumbao or jatropha tree.
The children were discharged from hospitals after an overnight treatment and observation. The provincial and municipal governments shouldered their medical expenses.
