- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Science and Technology has allocated P2.89 million for a research project aimed at improving the muscovado sugar industry in Western Visayas.

The study aims to help sugarcane farmers improve their cultural management practices, increase their volume of production and raise their income.

The program, which is led by the Negros State College of Agriculture, will run for a year.  The first component, which started in October 2011, is a comprehensive analysis of the muscovado supply chain in Antique.  The second component is a technology demonstration of organic sugarcane production for muscovado processing in Negros Occidental and Antique.
