De Lima's security aide found dead
MANILA, Philippines - A close-in security aide of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima was found dead in San Ildefonso town in Bulacan yesterday morning.
De Lima said Alister Quintos, 32, sustained a gunshot wound and his service firearm was missing.
She immediately ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a probe and determine who was behind the killing.
“We were shocked,” she told reporters in an ambush interview as she recalled seeing Quintos the other night when she went home from office.
“They brought me here and he was OK. He was really a good guy – not talkative and he just smiled all the time,” she added.
Quintos, an organic member of the Department of Justice’s Internal Service Operations Group, was dropped off in Cubao, Quezon City by De Lima’s other close-in bodyguards Thursday night. He was supposed to be on his way home to Antipolo City from Cubao when his colleagues last saw him.
De Lima is clueless on the motive behind the killing, saying Quintos did not mention any threats to his life.
Asked if she considers the killing as a threat, De Lima said, “I don’t know. Incidents like that should not be taken for granted. Of course, you can never tell, that’s why there should be an investigation.”
