Driver nabbed for teacher's slay
MANILA, Philippines - Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna – Police arrested a tricycle driver in Quezon City on Tuesday night for the killing of a public school teacher in Victoria town last Feb. 17, authorities said.
Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna police director, said the suspect, Florencio Martin Aquino, was identified by witnesses as the one who allegedly killed Antonina Menese Labing, 37, a public school teacher in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
With the help of his relatives, Aquino was arrested in a police entrapment in Quezon City, just a few meters away from Camp Karingal, at around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Labing was last seen onboard a tricycle on her way to school on the morning of Feb. 17. She was later found dead with at least 24 stab wounds in a grassy area along the provincial road in Barangay Nanhaya, Victoria town. – Arnell Ozaeta, Ed Amoroso
