Quakes rock Eastern Samar

MANILA, Philippines -  A magnitude 5 earthquake rocked Eastern Samar before dawn yesterday but did not cause damage or injury, state seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the tremor occurred at 3:29 a.m. and was centered 62 kilometers southeast of San Policarpio, Eastern Samar, where it was felt at Intensity 3.

Three quakes, with magnitudes of 3.6, 3.3 and 1.6, were also recorded in Eastern Samar at 1:28 a.m., 3:17 a.m. and 3:42 a.m. yesterday, respectively. These tremors though were not felt.
