BARILI, Cebu, Philippines – A dump truck carrying some 60 to 70 passengers as part of a funeral convoy lost its brakes and fell on its side along the highway here, killing at least eight and injuring the rest of the group.
Those injured were rushed to the Barili District Hospital and were later brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
The mishap left the coffin open. It was eventually loaded onto another vehicle for burial in the town’s public cemetery. The vehicle though suffered electrical problems and got stalled, and the coffin had to be transferred to a third vehicle, a multi-cab. – Ria Mae Booc, Ryan Christopher Sorote/The Freeman
