2 dead in Laguna fire

LAGUNA, Philippines  – A retired policeman and his 20-year-old daughter were killed while his son, a rookie cop, was injured in a fire that razed at least 40 houses near the public market in Barangay Santisima, Sta. Cruz town this province yesterday morning.

Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna provincial director, identified the fatalities as Carlito Maglipon and his daughter Mara. Injured was PO1 Francisco Maglipon, who is assigned to the Sta. Cruz police.

Cruz said the fire started in the house of a certain Joey Landirito where materials for fireworks were allegedly being kept.
