PNP, AFP brace for NPA attacks in Cagayan

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – Philippine National Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo is expected in Cagayan today as government forces are bracing for retaliatory attacks by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels following last Thursday’s encounter, which led to the death of their leader and four of their comrades.

Chief Superintendent Francisco Villaroman, Cagayan Valley police director, said security has been beefed up in the region’s northern part amid possible retaliatory strikes by the insurgents.

“We are not taking any chances here since the rebels may launch a retaliatory attack following the encounter,” Villaroman said.

He added though that the police and military are on top of the situation and are more than capable of repelling any attacks. – Charlie Lagasca, Raymund Catindig
