BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – A man who took a nine-year-old girl hostage in a mountain town here was found dead in his cell last Aug. 22, belated reports said.
The suspect, identified as Antonio Caban-nag, 46, of Navokar, Bontoc, Mt. Province, reportedly hanged himself using his shirt in his cell at the Santa Fe municipal jail.
Police said villagers were the ones who reported the hostage-taking incident and brought Caban-nag to the authorities.
Relatives of the young hostage victim reportedly told police that Caban-nag had mood swings and suicidal tendencies, thus all things that he could use to harm himself with were kept away from him.
However, despite all precautions taken by the police, the suspect still found a way to commit suicide.
